TRIGONOMETRY

Welcome to a collection of answers to the book Trigonometry
by I.M. Gelfand and M. Saul
I taught Trigonometry to Juniors and Seniors at Estancia Valley Classical Academy in the Fall of 2016. I used the book Trigonometry authored by I.M. Gelfand and M. Saul as the guide for the learned material. My typical plan was to have the students read some text the night before, go over that orally the next day, then assign all the exercises that appeared right after the explanation material. The book was clear enough that the majority of students stayed with me and the book. This book minimized the amount of preparation needed for the class, thus allowing sufficient time to prepare for the other subjects I was teaching.
A frequent complaint in various online reviews for the book is that there is no answer key. So, on this web page I will attempt to provide answers for all odd numbered problems.
If you see errors or things are not clear, please e-mail me at the address on the contact page and I will try to respond and/or update the web page.
About Mr. Beach:
In my high school years, I discovered science; or, in particular, the science of Physics. That subject started to explain to me how everything around me moved and reacted. I continued to a Mechanical Engineering degree, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in 1977. For the succeeding 39 years I worked as an engineer in specialized applications such as proton accelerators, space satellites, cryogenics, ground-to-space communications, on-orbit experiments, rocket propulsion, ultra-high vacuum, electromagnetic pulsed power and spacecraft avionics. The high school subjects that lead me to this interesting career were Chemistry and Physics. I always had the curiosity and desire to learn more about the Physical Sciences.
As I raised a son and coached many soccer and sports teams, I got special joy as kids realized something for the first time. I entered a year of teaching a wide variety of math and loved the many moments when students' eyes opened and I heard "Oooh!" and "Now I get it!" when they exclaimed their moment of understanding.
Those moments make teaching rewarding and enjoyable for me. In addition, teaching affords me the responsibility and opportunity to continually delve deeper into math and science to understand them better so that I can determine ways to help students understand the myriad of concepts.
I started on the path toward a teaching license in the fall of 2015. I taught mathematics all of the 2016-2017 school year in the subjects of Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and Calculus. I followed that by teaching 12 weeks of Physical Science at East Mountain High School in the Fall of 2017.
I continue to look forward to those special moments when students understand a concept for the first time.
